How to download facebook videos using video downloader

Facebook has become a great mess of videos and every day millions of videos being uploaded. It is because people love watching videos and especially funny videos help them refresh their minds and gives a little comfort. Many of you either don't have enough time to watch at a time or just want to download that video and watch later. Here i am sharing two very easy methods that will help you download facebook videos easily.

Facebook has grown at a very fast pace and today it has left all social networking sites behind. Video and photo sharing are one of the most important features of Facebook. Gone are the days when people used to share trending videos and images on Facebook, now Facebook itself makes stuff viral.

Downloading Facebook videos isn’t something which has many solutions and the ways to do it aren’t as popular as downloading Youtube videos. I’ve read lots of content about how to download Facebook videos online in the past, but each of them had some bugs and many posts took me to many irrelevant pages.

Just the way Youtube videos are hosted on Google’s servers, Facebook videos are hosted on Facebook servers. But the link or URL of the Facebook video which we see on Facebook isn’t the actual file source, instead it is embedded.

Method 1: Using mobile site

Do not download any software to do this! Just follow these steps.
step 1

replace the www in the URL with m.
step 2

this brings you to the FB mobile site, once there click on your video.
step 3

While the video is playing if you are on a pc right click on the video screen and select "save video as" (sorry cant help the mac and linux folks out there) and choose a location on your pc to save the video.

Method 2: Using mobile basic site

step 1

replace the www in the URL with mbasic.
e.g. http://www.facebook.com/------ to - http://mbasic.facebook.com/------
step 2

this brings you to the facebook mobile site, once there you get in click on your video.
step 3

While the video is playing if you are on your PC right click on the video screen and select "save video as" and pic a location on your PC to save the video.

Method 3:

This technique allows for the original quality of the video to remain intact (be aware if you want to download it in HD you need to click the HD option as soon as the video starts and don't open the new tab/window until the video has ended).
Step 1.
Open Facebook in Google Chrome (only works in chrome). You will need to use the Chrome Web Developer tools to find the link for the private video. Chrome is a free browser that can be downloaded from Google.
Step 2.
Open the link to the video you want to download by clicking on the video in the videos folder under photos in your profile or click on the time that you posted/shared the video to open the page where the video is shown on its own (if it opens a pop up window with Facebook showing behind it when click the time link again). The video should open in its own page.
Step 3.
3. Click the Chrome menu button. This is located in the upper-right corner of the window. It looks like three horizontal lines. Hover your cursor over Tools, and then select “Developer tools”. You will see a small bar appear at the bottom of the webpage.
Step 4.
4. Click the “Undock” button in the bottom-left corner to open the Developer tools in a separate window. This will make it easier to navigate.
Step 5.
5. Click the Network tab in the Developer tools. This will open a list of all of the items on the current webpage.
Step 6.
Play the video. In order for the video to appear, you will need to play it from start to finish in the Facebook window. Once the video is complete, click the “Type” column to sort the list of objects by their file type. Scroll down until you find one labeled “video/mp4”.
If you play the video and don’t see the file, keep the Developer tools open and refresh the Facebook page with the video. Play it again from start to finish, and check the list. You may have to do this several times for it to appear.
Step 7.
Right-click on the video address in the “Name” column. Select “Open link in new tab”. A new tab will open with just the video.
Step 8.
Right-click on the video. Select “Save video as…” and then choose where you want to save the video and what you want to name it.
And you are done, it may seem complicated but trust me once you get your head around it its actually pretty straightforward.

Method 4:

Step 1:

Get Facebook video URL
Make sure that the video you are trying to download is hosted on Facebook servers and its privacy is public. (URL of public videos look like: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=921674917…)

Now having confirmed the public privacy, right click and open the Facebook video in a new tab. Copy the video URL from your web browser.
If the video you’re trying to download turns out to be private refer to the very simple method of downloading private Facebook videos described later in this article.
Step 2:
Open the Getfbstuff.com
Open the link above and paste the copied video URL in the video URL box . Click the “Download” button.
Step 3:
Download your video in the required quality
The Facebook video can be available in two qualities- high resolution or low resolution.
Identifying the required quality, right click and select “Save link as” to save Facebook video into your computer.
Note: If you are unable to download the Facebook video, it may be so because of the privacy settings of the uploader.

Method 5:

I’m recommending using GetFbStuff because it provides you an option of downloading private Facebook videos where other video downloaders fail. Private Facebook videos are those whose privacy is set as “private” or not “public” by the uploader and it’s not possible to download that video just by using the URL.
Step 1:
Get the “page source” of private Facebook video
Right click and open the video in a new tab.
The private Facebook video’s URL will look something like: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=913044420&set=a.15841…..

ht-click on the page and select “View page source” or go for CTRL+U.
Copy the entire page source by using “CTRL+C” and “CTRL+C”.
Step 2:
Open this link >  http://www.getfbstuff.com/facebook-private-video-downloader
Open the above link and paste the source code in the box as shown in the screenshot. Click the download button.
Step 3:
Download and save the video
Identifying the required quality, right click and select “Save link as” to save Facebook video into your computer.

Method 6: Download video you posted

If you previously uploaded the video you want to download, you can download the video by following the steps below.
step 1.
Open Facebook and find the video in your "photos" section.
step 2.
Click on the video to open it in Facebook.
step 3.
Once the video has been opened, click on the Options link under the video.
step 4.
In the Options menu, you will see one or two download options. If the video was recorded in high definition, Download HD and Download SD will be available options to select. If the video was recorded in standard definition, only Download SD will be available to select. Select the preferred download option, depending on the quality of the video you want to download.
Note: HD is the highest quality of video available to download, but is also a larger file size.
If neither of these Download links are available, the video is not something you uploaded to Facebook. Skip to the download a video a friend or family member posted section.

Method 7: Download a video a friend or family member posted

Unfortunately, Facebook doesn't give an easy option to download friend and family videos. However, following the steps below allows you to download any uploaded video on Facebook without any software.
step 1.
Log in to Facebook and find the video you want to download.
step 2.
Right-click on the video and select Show video URL.
step 3.
A small pop-up window should appear, with the video URL. Press Ctrl+C on the keyboard to copy the URL.
step 4.
In the browser's Address bar, press Ctrl+V to paste the video URL.
step 5.
Modify the video URL, changing the "www" at the beginning of the URL to "m". The URL should then start with https://m.facebook.com/
step 6.
Once changed, press Enter to open the mobile version of the page and follow the steps below, depending on your browser.
Edge browser
  • Click the Play icon on the video to start playing the video.
  • Right-click on the video and select the Save video as option.
  • Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the video.
Internet Explorer browser
  • Click on the Play icon on the video to start playing the video in a new tab.
  • At the bottom of the Internet Explorer window, a pop-up message will appear, asking if you want to Open or Save the video. Click the down arrow next to the Save button and select the Save as option.
  • Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the video.
Google Chrome browser
  • Click the Play icon on the video to start playing the video.
  • Right-click on the video and select the Save video as... option.
  • Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the video.
Firefox browser
  • Click the Play icon on the video to start playing the video in a new tab.
  • Right-click on the video and select the Save Video as... option.
  • Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the video.

Method 8: How to Download Facebook Videos Without Special Software

This ninja trick shows you how to extract an MP4 file of your video from Facebook.
No fancy software required!

Step 1: Go to Page

Go to the page that posted the video.
Then click the ‘More’ button below the cover image -- or just scroll down the page and find the video.

Step 2: Find the Vid

Find the video you want to download -- then click on it to open it.

Step 3: Change the URL

In the URL, change the "https://www" to "https://m".
For instance, the above video link is:
So I replace the https://www with "m", like this:
Now when you view the video, you see the mobile view, which fills the whole screen, like this:

Step 5: Save the Video

Now all you need to do is right click on the video and choose the "Save video as" option.
You will then see the MP4 option. Choose a name for the file and save to your computer.
NOTE: If you right click and have not played the video, this option does not come up.

Conclusion

Yep, it's really that simple! That's how you download Facebook videos.
Once you download the file, you can reuse the video on other platforms -- like your website, YouTube or any other video channel you would like.
What about you? Have you tried this?

Method 9: How to Copy a Video from Facebook

Amongst all its multiple capabilities, Facebook lets its users watch videos online and even upload and post their own in just a few minutes. But, unfortunately, there’s no easy way to do the reverse, i. e. to download a video from Facebook to your local drive. Sure, there are plenty of third-party programs that claim to offer a solution, but there’s no guarantee this kind of software is safe for your computer; you could easily end up with computer viruses, a hijacked Facebook account, stolen private information, SMS banners on your desktop, and other unwanted "extras".
Instead of taking a risk, try Movavi Screen Capture – a simple yet powerful tool for downloading online movies and video clips of any length. The program will help you easily copy a video from Facebook and save it in any popular audio or video format suitable for mobile phones, tablets and media players. Just download the appropriate program version and follow the simple steps below to learn how to rip a video from Facebook. The guide works for both PC and Mac versions.

1. Install the Facebook Video Ripper

Download the installation file, open it and follow the instructions on the screen. When it’s done, the program will run automatically.

2. Adjust the Capturing Frame

Go to Facebook, open the video you want to keep, and choose Start Recording in the program’s launcher window. Drag the cursor over the video to define the capture area with the help of the magnifying glass preview and guidelines by the cursor. If you want to record a Facebook video in full-screen mode (in HD), select the name of your monitor in the Full Screen section of the Capture Area preset list in the program interface after drawing the initial frame.

3. Record the Webcast

It’s time to record! Click REC to start the capturing process, wait five seconds, and start playing the video. You can control the recording process with the buttons on the program panel or manage the grabber using hotkeys – in Windows, press F9 to pause/resume, F10 to stop and on a Mac press ⌥ ⌘ 1 and ⌥ ⌘ 2 respectively. Press Stop to finish the recording process – you’ll see a window where you can play the video you’ve just captured. That’s all you need to do – the screen recording has automatically been saved to your computer in MKV format!

4. Trim the Footage and Export It in a Different Format (Optional)

If there is unwanted material anywhere in your video, you can easily remove it. Place the marker at the beginning of the unwanted segment and press the scissors icon, then mark the end point of that segment in the same way. Select that segment and hit the trash can icon. Repeat this process for each segment you want to cut out. Click the Save As button to save the changes; you can also choose a different format for the exported file in the dialog window.

You can save your video in MP4, AVI, MOV, or any other video format that meets your needs. Want to save only the music or other audio from the video? Use Screen Capture as a video-to-audio converter – just choose any of the audio formats: MP3, WAV, FLAC, and more. If you don't see your desired format on the quick access panel, hit More presets and switch to the Video and audio tab. Pick the format you need and hit Save. If you want to watch the clip right after export, click Show in folder in the export dialog: the program will take you to the destination folder in which your Facebook video has been saved

How to download a Facebook Live Video

1. Step One – Find the video in your profile or page feed

Once you have located the video, you will want to click on the time stamp and the video will pop up.

Once you click on the time stamp, the video will pop up and you will see it as well as the comments to the right of the video.

Step 2: Click on the three little dots in the upper right hand corner

You will want to right click on the video and click on the “Show video URL”.

Step 3: Click on the Download Video Option

Click the download video option and the option to save the video will appear on your computer.

Step 4: Choose the location to save the Facebook Live video

Choose where to save it on your computer and hit save. VIOLA!
OKAY, that seemed like a lot of work, right? What if there was a little tool that would do this for you quickly and easily?! Interested?

How to download Facebook videos

There are a few ways to download Facebook videos to your PC, and there are free downloadable applications which can do it for you. However, many such applications also like to install various undesirable features at the same time, such as browser toolbars and other nonsense.
Here’s how to download any Facebook video to which you have access, using only your web browser.

How to download your own Facebook video

If you’re trying to download one of your own videos, the process is easy. Go to your timeline and click ‘Photos’. Next, click ‘Albums’ and then the album called ‘Videos’. If you hover the mouse over a video thumbnail, you’ll see a small pencil icon appear in the top right-hand corner. Click this icon to bring up a menu. From here you’ll be able to select ‘Download in SD’ or ‘Download in HD’. You may find that clicking on one of these links plays the video instead of downloading it. If this happens, you can right-click on the video as it plays and select ‘Save video as…’ to download it.
Alternatively, you can right-click on ‘Download in SD’ or ‘Download in HD’ in the menu and select ‘Save link as…’ to save the video to your hard drive.

How to download a friend's Facebook video

If you want to download a Facebook video posted by someone else, the above method won’t work. You can, however, still download any video you can view on Facebook, by switching to the mobile site first.
Click on the video you want to download, then go to the address bar and change ‘www.facebook.com’ to ‘m.facebook.com’, leaving the rest of the URL as it is. This will take you to the mobile version of the page containing the video. Click the video to play it – don’t omit this step or the next step won’t work. Right-click on the video and select ‘Save video as…’ to download the video to your PC.

How to download a friend's Facebook video in HD

The above method will download only a standard definition version of the video. To download an HD version is more convoluted and requires use of your browser’s developer tools. There are many freeware tools and websites that offer to do this for free, but you should steer clear of these.
In Google Chrome, navigate to the page containing the video you want to download. Be sure to click on the video to bring it up in its own window, don’t try this with a video embedded in your news feed.
Press Ctrl-Shift-I to bring up the Developer Tools pane. This should appear either at the bottom of the page you’re viewing or in its own pop-out window. Click on ‘Network’ in the top of the Developer Tools pane and play the video you want to download. Next, click the HD icon in the bottom-right corner of the video to play the HD version of the video.
The developer panel should start to fill up with information on all the elements of the page as they load. Click the funnel icon, three icons in from the top left of the developer panel. This allows you to filter the results to help you find what you want. Type video into the box and you should see at least one entry of the type ‘video/mp4’. If you see two of these, then one will be the standard definition video and the other will be the HD video.
You can follow a similar procedure in other browsers. First open up the Facebook video in its own page, then:

In Firefox, press Ctrl-Shift-Q to bring up the Network developer tab, then click ‘Media’ at the bottom to show only the videos on the page.
In Internet Explorer, press F12 to open developer tools. Then select the icon on the left which resembles a wireless router. Click the green triangle to enable network capturing and then play your video in HD. Scroll through the results until you find video/mp4 entries. Right-click on the video/mp4 entry and select ‘Open link in new tab’.

This will open the video in its own browser tab where you can right-click and select ‘Save video as…’ to save the video to your hard drive. These last steps are the same in all the major browsers, although the exact wording may vary a little.

It’s indeed a great fun to upload videos in Facebook app on iPhone and iPad. One thing I always make sure whenever I launch Facebook is to check out the videos shared by my friends. And when I come across some exciting videos, I can't help watching them over and over again. That’s when I really feel like downloading my favorite videos in Facebook app so that I could easily catch up with them whenever I want.
Earlier, the facility of downloading videos was available only on Jailbroken iDevices, but now thanks to a cool app Video Downloader for Facebook by Futerox Interactive, I can download Facebook videos even on non-Jailbroken device. This app is available for free on App Store; however, this free version doesn't allow you to save your videos in camera roll, instead the video will be saved automatically in the app itself. If you want to save videos to the gallery of your iPhone, you can buy the Pro version of this app, which also allows you to see videos in HD without any interruption of ads.You can download Facebook videos you are tagged in, uploaded by you, uploaded by your friends, public viral and from pages you liked.

How to Download Facebook Videos on iPhone and iPad

Step #1. First off, download Video Downloader for Facebook from App Store.
Step #2. Now open the app.
Step #3. Tap on Home from the bottom menu.

Step #4. Now you can download videos from My Videos, Liked Pages, Friends, Public Viral, and News Feed.Step #5. You can view all downloaded videos by taping on Downloads tab. Please note that if you are using free version of this app, all your videos will be saved in the Playlist of the app. If you go for Pro version, you will be able to download videos in your iPhone’s gallery.

Download Facebook Videos on a Jailbroken iPhone/iPad

If you are using a Jailbroken iPhone or iPad, you can use a wonderful Cydia tweak – Prenesi. Once you have installed this jailbreak tweak, it allows you to download your favorite Facebook videos to your iPhone camera roll. The most interesting thing about this tweak is that it works like a native feature of Facebook. No need to configure any settings, just install it and you are ready to go. Head over the jump to know how you can do it!
Step 1: Launch Cydia
Step 2: Tap on Search icon from the bottom right corner and search Prenesi. This tweak is available for free from BigBoss repo. Once you have found this tweak, tap on it.
Step 3: Tap on Install from the top right corner
Step 4: After successfully installing this tweak, launch Facebook app
Step 5: Next up, look for the video which you want to download and tap on it
Step 6: Tap on Share icon from the bottom left corner
Step 7: Now, tap on Download this video
That’s it! The video has been saved to your iPhone Camera Roll. You can repeat these steps to download more videos.

Facebook first introduced video support back in 2007 and has since then improved the feature, for instance by adding high definition video support. Users can actually encounter two types of videos; Videos that are hosted on Facebook after they are uploaded by users, and videos that are embedded in messages and wall posts.
Facebook itself has no controls to download videos that are hosted or embedded on the social networking site. Users who want to download videos from Facebook need to look for third party solutions, like scripts, extensions and software programs.
Many popular solutions redirect the user to third party websites where the videos are downloaded. That's not very user friendly. This guide looks at solutions that offer direct downloads from Facebook without third party site redirection.

Browser-Independent: download Facebook videos

Probably the easiest way to download videos from Facebook is to do the following:
  1. Open the Facebook video on its own page on the Facebook website.
  2. Replace www in the address bar with m, so that the beginning reads https://m.facebook.com/ instead of https://www.facebook.com/.
  3. Reload the page.
  4. Right-click on the video afterwards and select "save video as" to download it to your device.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox users have the largest assortment of tools and extensions at their disposal. I'm going to introduce two different options here, there are however many more available.
The best option is to visit the official Mozilla Firefox add-ons repository and search for Facebook Video Downloads. A list of browser extensions is displayed to you which you can use for that purpose.
All have in common that they display an icon in the browser interface that you can click on to download the video on the page to your local system.
Facebook Video Downloader [update: no longer available] - is another option. This is a userscript which is compatible with the Firefox web browser. It is necessary to install either the Greasemonkey or Scriptish extension first before userscripts can be installed in Firefox.
Visit the userscripts page of the userscript after installing one of the extensions listed above. A click on the Install button installs the script

Userscripts manipulate web pages when they are loaded. Facebook Video Downloader adds a download link to every video page on Facebook.

Please note that you may have to reload the video page once before the download link appears on the page.

Google Chrome

The userscript mentioned above may work as well. Chrome like Firefox supports userscripts. No additional extension needs to be installed prior to installing userscripts in Google Chrome. Follow the installation instructions above to install the Facebook Video Download userscript in the Google Browser.

An alternative is the Windows software Google Chrome Cache Viewer which displays all cached items in the web browser. Videos, like other media, are cached on the local hard drive. Just sort the display by content or file size and select File > Save Selected Items to save the Facebook video to another location on the hard drive.
Please note that the video needs to be playing before it appears in the cache viewer.

Opera

Opera users can utilize a similar software called Opera Cache View by the same developer. It basically offers the same functionality as the Google Chrome software.

Internet Explorer

Guess what, Internet Explorer users can use IE Cache View from the same developer for exactly the same functionality. Just start the video on Facebook, open the software program, look for the video and download it.

General

Video Cache View is another alternative. The application supports multiple browsers and filters their cache for videos. This makes the identification of the Facebook video a lot easier.
We have shown how to download Facebook videos directly with extensions, userscripts and applications. The guide offers at least one solution for every popular web browser out there. The solutions sometimes may be limited to the Windows operating system, but that's what the majority of Internet users are using.

If you have a different solution for download videos from Facebook let us hear about it in the comments.
